How do you know who to trust with your eyesight? Picking the closest eye doctor might be easy, but choosing the right one should come down to how they approach care, what they can help you manage, and whether they feel like the right fit for you.
We want you to get to know our doctors in Lincoln and Grand Island before you schedule. Here’s a closer look at the patients they care for, how they approach eye health, and where you can find them.
Jennifer Wemhoff, O.D. | Lincoln East
Originally from Columbus, Nebraska, Dr. Jennifer Wemhoff takes a small-town approach to patient care. One of her favorite parts of the job is getting to know her patients. From learning about what has changed with your eyesight to helping people understand those changes, her focus is getting a clear picture of what is going on and what to do next.
Dr. Wemhoff earned her Doctorate in Optometry from Indiana University School of Optometry. An appointment with Dr. Wemhoff, of course, will include a comprehensive eye exam, and she’ll also consider prescription changes, glasses and contact lens needs, and concerns about eye health or vision. During an exam, she will also look for signs of conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.
Sometimes the reason for an appointment is simple: the menu is getting harder to read. Other times, it is headaches, eye strain, blurry vision, or a change you cannot quite explain. Dr. Wemhoff enjoys discovering how the right pair of eyewear can help you in everyday life.
You can see Dr. Wemhoff at Heartland Optical’s Lincoln East location at 8222 Holdrege Street, Suite 5.
Jennifer Yager, O.D. | Central Lincoln
Dr. Jennifer Yager likes that she can care for patients through every stage of life at Heartland Optical. Whether that’s helping a child through a first eye exam or helping someone adjust as their vision changes over time, Dr. Yager’s favorite part is seeing the reaction when a patient realizes how much clearer the world can look.
Dr. Yager’s friendly, personal approach is just part of who she is. Raised in Thedford, Nebraska, she earned her Doctorate in Optometry from Indiana University School of Optometry and has been practicing since 2001.
For younger patients, an eye exam with Dr. Yager might consider clarity, focusing, eye alignment, movement, and overall eye health. She’s also skilled at helping adults who may come in because reading has become harder, distance vision has changed, screens are causing eye strain, or contacts no longer feel as comfortable as they once did.
You can see Dr. Yager at Heartland Optical’s Central Lincoln location at 1012 N. 27th Street.
Cassity West, O.D. | Central Lincoln
Dr. Cassity West knows what it is like to sit on the other side of the exam chair. She has worn glasses and contact lenses since she was 12, and those early experiences helped spark her interest in optometry.
Growing up in Crete, Nebraska, Dr. West discovered the profession in high school and went on to earn her Doctorate in Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. She works with patients on everyday vision needs, prescription changes, glasses, contact lenses, and concerns about how their eyes feel or function. Comprehensive exams also give Dr. West an opportunity to look deeper at eye health and identify changes that may need to be monitored, treated, or referred for additional care.
Even if your vision still feels “good enough,” an eye exam can establish a useful baseline. Comparing your eye health over time can help identify subtle changes before you notice them yourself. Dr. West has found, above all, that helping someone see better or get answers about an eye concern is what’s rewarding about working at Heartland Optical.
You can see Dr. West at our Central Lincoln location at 1012 N. 27th Street.
Paul Lackore, O.D. | Grand Island
Dr. Paul Lackore enjoys caring for the complete range of vision needs. Whether someone needs a routine eye exam, an updated prescription, new contacts, or help understanding a change in their eye health, he takes a comprehensive approach to their care.
A Nebraska Wesleyan University graduate, Dr. Lackore earned his Doctorate in Optometry from Indiana University School of Optometry. He has called Aurora, Nebraska, home for more than 30 years and remains active in both his profession and his local community. During an exam, Dr. Lackore can evaluate vision and eye health, look for signs of common eye conditions, and help patients determine whether changes should be monitored, treated, or referred for additional care.
You can see Dr. Lackore at Heartland Optical’s Grand Island location at 1437 N. Webb Road.

Annual Exams are Essential
A lot happens during an eye exam that has nothing to do with reading the smallest line on the chart. Our optometrists check for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. And their experience can help you treat common concerns such as dry eye, minor eye infections, and eye strain, and they can diagnose and help manage certain chronic eye conditions.
Every comprehensive exam at Heartland Optical also includes an Optomap screening at no additional charge. This technology captures an ultra-wide image of the retina, giving your doctor another way to examine eye health and compare changes over time.
Eye Care
Whether it has been a year since your last exam or something simply does not seem quite right, schedule an appointment with one of Heartland Optical’s eye doctors in Lincoln or Grand Island. We’ll take a closer look and help you see what comes next.
