Types of Lenses

Single Vision

Single vision lenses use the same prescription over the entire lens. These lenses can be used to correct various eyesight issues.

Bifocal

Bifocal Lenses give the wearer two prescriptions within one lens. The top typically focuses on the distance prescription while the lower focuses on the near point.

Trifocal

Trifocal lenses give three areas of focus; distance, intermediate, and near. This type of lens will correct an intermediate distance deficiency yet it will continue giving the wearer distance and near vision.

Progressive - No Line Bifocals

Our most advanced product, progressive lenses give the wearer clarity at all distances. Digitally designed for each patient, every lens is unique; a fingerprint of your visual prescription. Far to near, our custom-produced, digital lenses give the widest width and clarity available today.

Lens Material

Our experienced lab team uses a combination of the best lens material and updated technology to carefully craft every pair of prescription lenses for our patients. From polycarbonate and plastics to trivex and high index lenses, we have what it takes to create the perfect pair of prescription glasses to fit all of your wants and needs.

Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate lenses are the most impact-resistant lenses available and are recommended by Heartland Optical because of their versatility. Polycarbonate lenses are lightweight, durable, and safe. They help absorb harmful UV light and come equipped with scratch coating on both sides of the lens. Polycarbonate was developed in the 1970s for aerospace applications, and is currently used for the helmet visors of astronauts and for space shuttle windshields. Eyeglass lenses made of polycarbonate were introduced in the early 1980s in response to a demand for lightweight, impact-resistant lenses.

Hard Resin – Plastic

CR-39 lenses, also known as plastic lenses, are one of the most common materials for lenses. Plastic lenses became popular during the 1970s due to the fashion trend for large-sized frames. Plastic (also known as hard resin or CR-39) lenses are half the weight of glass lenses, which made them more comfortable. Plastic also provides excellent optics and vision correction. To overcome the softer lens surface, scratch resistant coatings are available and always recommended.

Glass

The oldest of lens materials. Glass lenses are becoming obsolete in the lens marketplace today because of the advances in the materials listed above. Glass is heavy but very scratch resistant. For patients that strongly believe in glass we have it available.

Trivex

The newest material in the optical world. Trivex provides the impact resistance of polycarbonate with the clarity of glass. They are lightweight, durable, safe, but are thicker than polycarbonate or hi-index.

Lighter, Thinner Lenses - Hi-Index

Modern technology has created lenses that bend light differently so stronger prescriptions are thinner than conventional lens materials.

Lens Treatments

Your lenses help you see the world. Protecting them is imperative to increase their longevity and lifespan. At Heartland Optical, we prioritize the care of your lenses and that is why we offer several types of lens treatments. Take a look below to get a sense of what we can do for your lenses.

Anti/Reflection Coatings

Special anti-reflective coatings are available for spectacle lenses. Similar to those used on fine camera lenses, these coatings are particularly effective at reducing eye fatigue for computer operators and minimizing glare for nighttime drivers. AR lenses also enhance appearance by removing all distracting reflections. At Heartland Optical, we only use the highest quality anti-reflective coatings.

Scratch Protection Coating

Scratch coating is included with most lens purchases made at Heartland Optical. Additional scratch coating, “thermal hard coat,” is the most protective and is available at an additional charge. Thermal coating is layered on the lens and then cured or baked onto the lens to give it additional hardness.

Tints and Mirrors

Customization of lenses reflect an individual's personal preference. Solid tints, gradient tints, double gradient tints, and a rainbow of mirror colors to choose from help reflect your own style and personality.

Polarized Sunglasses

Polarized lenses have become the first choice for anyone interested in a comfortable and attractive sunglass lens. The amount of glare that is able to be reduced is incredible. As a result, natural colors are enhanced leaving your vision crystal clear.

Tint Versus Polarized

Although darkly tinted sunglasses may reduce brightness, they do not compare to polarized lenses in removing glare or blocking harmful UV rays. Polarized lenses use a filter to reduce the polarized glare and increase ultraviolet absorbing properties to better protect your eyes. Today’s polarized lenses are the best in sun protection and outdoor lifestyle options.

Digital Lenses

Go from ordinary to WOW with digital lenses. Digital lenses are the newest technology in progressive lenses (no line bifocals) giving you the enhanced vision you want and deserve including increased clarity and reduced distortion. The difference between ordinary and digital lenses is best compared to your television. Standard or conventional progressive lenses are like your old TV and new digital lenses are like your HDTV. Digital lenses take into account more than your prescription. They are based on many factors including your frame size and shape, your correction, how far your frames sit away from your eyes, and other unique factors about your eyes. These lenses are designed to provide sharper vision in all lighting conditions, and when included with premium anti-reflective coating, reduce glare for nighttime driving and other night vision tasks.

Computer Glasses

Protect Your Eyes

Computer glasses are the perfect option for patients who use computers and experience the negative effects of prolonged screen time. These progressive computer lenses utilize anti-reflection coatings to minimize side effects of prolonged screen time such as eye strain and headaches. We recommend computer glasses to any person who is on the computer for four or more hours per day.
